The Great Purge Continues...

... albeit slowly.

Yesterday was trash day. It was also very cool outside, and I have a ton of pruning and yard work that needs to be done, so Prima and I headed out to do yard work while Terzo went around the yard with a trash bag and collected items that should have been picked up months ago... a broken drum, broken truck, plastic cups, etc. Five minutes in to my pruning, two things happened:

1) it began to thunder

2) I realized that we only had 5 more trash days until the move. Eek!

First, I told Prima to put away the lawn mower and gas can she had just hauled out of the shed. Second, I cleaned and put away the long, metal pole pruner (aka lightning rod) I was using. Third, I told Terzo to go to a sheltered spot by the house to finish stuffing and tying his bag while I ran into the house to load one more bag (wine bottle collection Kyle said I could toss... there's no glass recycling here... grrr) and grab the broken foot stool we've been holding on to because it was the perfect height for sitting on while playing video games. Being the good mother that I am, I ran these down our long driveway myself while I sent the kids inside. So, that's one full can, plus one foot stool, plus two more bags of trash gone.

In the meantime, I am trying to give away as much stuff as I can. Since I last updated, that's been two more boxes of books, two more bags of clothes, two bags of shoes (paper shopping bags, not black trash bags), and a bag of stuffed animals. I've also given our Hooked on Phonics set to a friend that could use it (I really wish it helped Quarto like it helped our other three, but I guess that's moot since our cassette players all decided they were going to retire at once). I still have a bunch of education/ homeschool books that I'm not sure what to do with. I'm thinking of offering them free to some local friends and whatever I still have in a couple weeks, I'll sell back to Amazon. I won't get much, but a little is better than nothing. I definitely don't have the time or inclination to try to sell these items online.

Ironically, I am spending time looking for some books for next school year right now. Secunda's math set arrived a couple days ago. I hate having to buy books now that I am just going to have to pack up and move in a month, but high school starts just after we move, and I need as much time to plan as possible... although I think we may start the year in September rather than August this year just to give us all time to settle after the move (and to give me a little more time to plan).

Having friends who work at the university library (in acquisitions none-the-less) and Wal-Mart really pays off in the box department. Thanks to VBS all last week (that's Terzo on the horse at VBS) I've packed about a dozen boxes so far (mostly photographs and books) and have a good pile waiting to be filled. Plus, I finished my audiobook and started another!

Well, better get back to work. There's kids to be educated, boxes to be packed, more items to be tossed, and only 4 more trash days!
